Chocolate Banana Bread

Today I made you chocolate banana bread. Because it’s Friday, and also, why not?

Everyone always gets super excited about Fridays and I want to feel that way too, but I’m not actually working right now so I feel like I have to be a little less excited than everyone else. Except I’m not less excited. I think I’m just as excited, actually. And I’m not apologizing for it.

Also, just an update, I turn 30 in exactly 8 days. Is it too soon to have a mid-life crisis? I’m pretty sure my dad had his first one at 27 at which point he bought a Ferrari and had triplets, so if you think about it, I’m actually a few years behind. I’d better get on that.

Except not this weekend. This weekend I’m planning to enjoy the last weekend of my twenties. Happy long weekend everyone.

1 1/2 cups wheat flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp sea salt
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
3 ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
½ cup dark chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9in x 5in loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  3. In a small bowl, lightly beat the eggs, and add the mashed banana, greek yogurt, honey, sugar and vanilla.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry, careful not to over-mix.
  5. Fold the chocolate chips into the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, and bake for ~50-55 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for about 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Banana bread
