Protein-style Buffalo Turkey Burgers with Creamy Blue Cheese Sauce

Full disclosure: I didn’t realize how much I hate the word creamy until I put it in the title of this blog post. Burger

Anyway, this burger was eaten on a Sunday night while trying to be semi-healthy and ignoring the fact that I’d already eaten everything in sight all weekend long. Because no bun = healthy, right?

Plus, you guys, it’s been a hell of a week. I prefer to self-medicate with alcohol over food but sometimes you just need a burger, you know? With blue cheese sauce. And sweet potato wedges. Followed immediately by 1.5 ridiculously large Butter Bakery chocolate chip cookies from The Market.

But you didn’t need to know that.

1 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/4 cup hot sauce (I used Lingham’s)
1/2 diced onion
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
Sliced red onion
Lettuce (or buns)

Blue Cheese Sauce
4 oz blue cheese
1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
Juice from 1 lemon
2 tbs milk (I used Almond but if that sounds gross to you feel free to use cow)
1/2 tspWorcestershire
Salt + pep

  1. To make the burgers, combine the first six burger ingredients, being careful not to over-mix.
  2. Let the mixture chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes.
  3. Heat up the grill, form the patties and cook them through until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
  4. While the burgers are cooking, make the the blue cheese sauce by combining all blue cheese sauce ingredients. Taste to adjust the seasoning, and add a little more milk if you want it to be creamier.
  5. To assemble the burgers, lay down a large piece of lettuce, followed by the burger patty, blue cheese sauce, red onion, avocado, and another piece of lettuce.
  6. Serve with sweet potato wedges or french fries or chocolate chip cookies.
