Chocolate + Coffee Tart with Roasted Figs

You guys I swear this is so easy. It looks fancy though, doesn’t it? Like you slaved for hours in the kitchen to make sure that your friend’s birthday/bar mitzvah/bridal shower/dog’s first birthday was the best ever. You’re such a good friend.

You shouldn’t have.

Just smash up some graham crackers…

Ingredients –

Tart shell
1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers (~8 graham crackers)
4 tablespoons melted (unsalted) butter
2 teaspoons granulated sugar

Filling
10 oz dark chocolate (I used Nestle dark chocolate chips)
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon instant coffee

Figs
4 figs (I used Stellar Black Mission)
1 tablespoon(ish) honey

  1. To make the tart shell: Combine the crushed graham crackers, melted butter and sugar in a medium sized bowl. Mix together with a fork. Press into an 8-inch round tart or quiche pan with removable bottom. Bake at 350 degree for 10 minutes.
  2. To make the filling: Add the heavy cream and instant coffee to a sauce pan and bring to a simmer. Note – the small amount of cream will heat very quickly, so be careful not to burn (like I did, ahem, the first time).
  3. In a heat proof bowl, add the chocolate, and pour the cream over. Mix together until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Pour the filling into the tart shell. Let set in refrigerator for 2-3 hours.
  5. To make the figs. Slice figs in half. Top with honey. Roast at 350 degree over for 10 minutes.
  6. Top set, chilled tart with graham crackers and figs.
