Strawberry Basil Smash + Girl’s Night

It makes me a little sad that girl’s nights are so much more infrequent than they were in college. In college, every night was girl’s night. Now, every night is I’m-exhausted-from-work-so-I’m-going-to-sit-on-the-couch-and-watch-Food-Network-Night. Needless to say, it had been much too long since my girlfriends and I painted the town red (people still say that, right?) So when my sister Candy and girlfriend T and I decided to hit the town Saturday night, I whipped up these puppies for our pregame. Because every good girl’s night deserves a good cocktail pregame. You know, so we can be classy while getting ready to go drinking…by drinking.
The end result? We had an amazing night that started with dirty ‘tinis here, and ended with raging house music here, with some salsa dancing here in between.
Sunday morning? Not so fun. Worth it? Of course – girl’s night usually is.

Ingredients –

1/4 cup chopped strawberries
3-4 large basil leaves
2 oz of vodka (I like Kettle One but to each their own)
~1 cup of soda water (use tonic if you prefer but soda water has 0 calories, just saying…)
1 teaspoon honey
Makes 1 smash

  1. In a highball glass, muddle the strawberries together with the basil.
  2. Pour in vodka and soda water.
  3. Top with honey and stir to blend.
